Spectrum and regulation – the way forward

Spectrum allocation for 5G rollout will be a key item on the agenda at the WRC-19. Different working groups are aiming to reach homogeneous positions and support beneficial decisions for the future IT ecosystem. This session will bring together representatives of working groups, regulators, and the private sector, and will focus on:

•  The current progress status of regulatory decision making,
•  Current and prospective usage of frequency bands under consideration, particularly for those presenting a potential overlap in use between terrestrial wireless networks (mobile, Wi-Fi etc.) and satellite-based services,
•  Mitigation approaches currently under consideration and related trials and results.

Speakers: Representatives from regulators, industry associations and operators

Morning coffee break

Testing and deploying 5G

From tests to network deployment, executives from operators and solution suppliers will discuss expected performance and challenges attached to the development and rollout of 5G networks. The potential future topology of networks and their ability to meet different levels of performance, reliability, security (etc.) will be discussed. The need to combine different networks to address different service tiers and user requirements will also be covered.

Another part of the discussion will also focus on the ecosystem of partners required for an efficient rollout of 5G, including network design and equipment, tower and nodes in 5G networks, and the development of a range of user terminals.

Speakers: Executives from mobile operators, satellite operators, solution vendors

Lunch

Complementing & hybridizing with 5G

There are several objectives for 5G, ranging from the availability of faster broadband connectivity to critical communications, lower latency, enhanced mobility and higher reliability, among other features, with a major focus on IoT. One of the challenges will be to see how alternative networks will combine with the future cellular 5G networks to meet the expectations of data users and provide a seamless experience. Representatives from operators will discuss the future positioning of their networks and the developments and improvements that will be required to be part of the 5G ecosystem.

What are the different positions possible in the ecosystem for dedicated and/or segregated IoT communication networks?

5G anytime/anywhere: How to bring 5G benefits to the edge of networks, remote locations, in the air and at sea?

Speakers: Executives from specialized IoT delivery networks, satellite operators  and other networks

Coffee break

Service and uses – What are the benefits for society

The 5G promise will only be fulfilled if the industrial and service sectors introduce breakthrough services that bring significant economic and social benefits to end users.

Public and private organizations, including developers of innovative IoT, communication and other data services will provide insights into current use cases, upcoming requirements and the leverage that they expect from the rollout of 5G networks.

The session will bring together representatives from organizations serving the needs of different verticals and user groups, such as Smart Cities, transportation, security applications (etc.).

Speakers: Representatives from public organizations, service providers and industrial companies
